Polya (Pauline) Spector Gologorsky was born in 1896 in Popovitz, a small town near Kopoigarod. She was the daughter of David Yankel Jakov Spektor and Yohevet Friedman. Yohevet was the sister of Israel Friedman. Polya was the sister-in-law of Anya Spector.
Polya’s parents had about ten children and were destitute, so Polya was adopted by her aunt and uncle, Haika Sarah Friedman Lifshitz and Shmuel Lifshitz. This story is important, because when I found a DNA relationship between me and another family who were decedents of a possible sister (Fruma) of Ephraim Friedman, it turned out that the same story of this adoption was passed down in their family as well.
Polya married David Gologorsky in 1919 before leaving Eastern Europe. According to family legend, he was arrested by the Communists and imprisoned. Polya bribed the prison officials and he escaped. In 1921, they joined the Friedman clan on a ship to Vera Cruz and then overland to Hermosillo, Mexico.
Her daughter, Rebecca Ruth Gologorsky (1921-2009), was born in Hermosillo. Her son, Fredric Gologorsky (1923-2006), was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Their daughter, Rosalind Rina Gologorsky (1930-2004), was born in New York City.
Polya died 15 November, 1945 in Los Angeles.
