Nevada Hess Dutton

Nevada Hess (1873-1917) was one of nine children, daughter of Louis Hess and Helena Einstein, born in Virginia City, Nevada. Granddaughter of Levi Hess and Theresa Sanger. She lived in San Francisco and wrote for various newspapers, such as the Overland Monthly. In 1903 she was “discovered” by McKee Rankin and started a stage career under the name of “Eliza Oldfield”. She joined the company of Nance O’Neil. She worked as a volunteer during the 1906 earthquake. She was a registered democrat. She married Arthur H. Dutton, a writer in the military on March 7, 1913 in San Francisco. She died in 1917 at the age of 44.
