Sanger
We know very little about the Sanger family.
All we know about the Sanger family is that Theresa Sanger came from Alsace-Lorraine to New Orleans, she spoke French, and she married Levi Hess in about 1833. They settled in Donaldsonville, Louisiana and had four sons and four daughters. She disappears from the record around 1850 (after the 1850 census), and presumably she died at that time. We know that with Levi Hess she purchased enslaved persons. We think she is the sister of David Sanger who married Clara Hess (Levi’s sister) and Henrietta Sanger who married Simon Jacobi. David Sanger, Simon Jacobi, and Levi Hess were in business together in a dry goods store in Baton Rouge in the 1840’s. I have no photos of Theresa Sanger or her presumed siblings.
